Now open, the Fast Track frees clinic space for emergency cases while providing care for those at the Pediatric ED for less-acute care. Medical professionals now have the option of moving patients to the three Fast Track examination rooms during the triage process.

For a dozen years or so, the School of Medicine’s admissions committee has put more students in the first-year class in an effort to place more doctors in Mississippi. In August, the number of students entering the school reached a milestone that could add up to improved access to health care for residents of the state.

When someone suffers a profound heart attack because a block in a major artery deprives that organ of blood, it’s called a STEMI. Quick and cutting-edge care can mean the difference between life and death. UMMC has delivered that level of service to patients for many years, and its protocols and standardization of care have led to the Medical Center being named a STEMI Receiving Center.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
